The government has announced its proposed rates for statutory maternity, paternity, adoption, parental bereavement, shared parental payments and statutory sick pay from April 2022.

The rate for 2022/23 for statutory maternity (SMP), paternity (SPP), adoption (SAP), parental bereavement (SPBP) and shared parental pay (SShPP) will increase from £151.97 to £156.66 per week.  Statutory Sick Pay will increase from £96.35 to £99.35 per week.

The average earnings that an employee has to earn to be entitled to these payments is set to increase from £120 to £123 per week.

The dates that these will increase have not yet been confirmed.  It is likely that SMP, SPP, SAP, SPBP and SShPP will increase on 3 April 2022 and SSP will increase on 6 April 2022.

What does this mean?

If you have employees on sickness absence or family leave leading up to April 2022 you must remember to increase the rates where the absence continues past the rate change and also use the new rates for anyone off after the increase dates.
